Filling the system with water for the test makes it cheaper and cleaner (no toxic,expensive antifreeze leaking on the ground). It is used with a cold system and the engine off so you can reach in with your hand to find the drip.

You may be able to get a loaner from a big box auto parts store. It is a small hand pump that pressurizes the system and forces the coolant out at the leak point. Finding the exact source is determined with a pressurized tester. You may be able to feel it by reaching under the pump, it is a small hole about half the diameter of a pencil. It is on the bottom of the pimp and difficult to see. Most water pumps have a weep hole that drips when the seals fail.

I think I covered every detail, but if questions need asked, IвЂ™ll answer the best I can.I appears to be coming from the front and the center of the engine. So I am here today looking for second analysis/opinion on what the problem could be or could have been. Then it comes down to is it worth keeping or trading it in. The final analysis, is to check the oil every day and see if coolant is leaking in the pan and to check the coolant level for a couple of weeks. So he took it for a drive for about an hour and said it ran fine, no leaks, and no white smoke. They did change the oil (needed it anyways). They checked the oil and it wasnвЂ™t milky. They cleaned the area and ran the car and no leak at weep hole. He said it looked like there was some coolant in the area around the water pump weep hole. Today, my brother-in-law put it up on the rack, and him and 3 other mechanics looked it over and found no leaks. My wife followed me and saw no sign of white smoke exhaust. The engine ran fine, no hesitations, noises, etc. But that never happened and the temp needle was steady at the half way point the entire trip. I figured when the temp would start to rise pull over, fill with water, and continue. (Note: heater was on during this trip, when my wife had it heater was not). The trip takes about 30 minutes being mostly highway driving. Fill the reservoir before leaving and head out the road. We gather up as many jugs and fill with water. I decided to drive it to his friendвЂ™s shop where he does motorcycle inspections. I take a video send it to my brother-in-law and we both agree water pump. This leak occurs at same rate as if car was running or not.

I crawl under and the coolant is a constant drip to the right of the oil filter (passenger side). Tuesday night I put the car on ramps and still all hoses look fine, fittings look fine, and I can see the area below the alternator is wet from where something was leaking. We both agree it should be towed home and check it tomorrow. We briefly talk with her brother about problem and without seeing it thinks it might be radiator. Give it a quick and look and canвЂ™t see anything where the leak is coming from. Figured it was the radiator leaking or a hose or hose fitting let loose. So I leave work, go home and change and get ready to go and notice a very large wet spot in the driveway. Monday my wife calls me and says the car temp spiked and is leaking coolant. But now I havenвЂ™t seen anything that compares to mine and IвЂ™m in search of opinions. I admit I troll a lot without posting searching for my comparable problems.
